In the beginning, God brought forth a community, to the heart of the land, where millenniums of deep-seated tradition mingled with hard won reform, to be His chosen people as the Jerusalem Mar Thoma Church. And the spirit of God was moving over the face of the church. And God asked, “Whom shall I send? Who shall go for us?”

Challenged by this commission of God, two promising young men, Mr. K.C. Pappachan and Mr. T. K. Joseph, in the middle of their budding career, forsook it all and took on the call of God for its true worth and volunteered to go to Wardha. In the summer of 1989, the Spirit prepared the young spirits for a challenging mission.

This church had dreamers for Christ who dreamt of winning souls from the land where Gandhiji had tirelessly strived to uplift the downtrodden to hold their head high and to create in them minds that would be without fear. It was their dream to fulfill that unfinished high ambition. Dr. P.P. Job and Mr. P.V. Thomas facilitated prayers and resources for this great commission.

The church stood united in providing the moral and economic courage to take the plunge into the unknown. The zeal that fired this leap of faith as well as the will of the young gentlemen came from the word of God that was rekindled and reinforced in the hearts and minds by Rev. George Mathew, who continues in his special way, to challenge other young men also to take the plunge for the Lord.

The two missionaries did a yeoman’s service in understanding the alien conditions of the hinterland and the subhuman conditions in which the ‘other half’ of humanity lived. Through their arrival, however, they showed the villagers a hope that burns a shade brighter with every passing day.

Mr. Joseph T.K. left the Mission in 1993 and as the church agonized over the dearth of missionaries to be sent, He answered by sending Mr. Jacob John as a companion to Mr. Pappachan K.C. Together, these warriors of God fought the forces of ignorance, malnutrition, ill-health and underdevelopment. After two years of notable service when Mr. Jacob John bid adieu for furthering his theological studies, the God of Elijah, brought Mr. Joseph Varghese as co-worker to Mr. Pappachan. The arrival of Mr. Milan Thodasa, reinforced their zeal in furthering the gospel.

Under the able guidance of Rev. Sunil Chacko, a Child Development Centre, sponsored by the Compassion International (India Chapter) was started at Wardha. Today, Mr. K C Pappachan and family, Mr. Shibu and Mr. Amaneesh give anchor to the activities at Wardha.
