The Mar Thoma
Yuvajana Sakhyam is the youth wing of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar, a church focused on a mission of lighted to lighten. This church, the assembly of St. Thomas Christians from Kerala pioneered the spiritual renaissance of India by organizing the largest Christian meet, the renowned Maramon Convention.
The
Yuvajana Sakhyam has over 1.5 lakh members and happens to be th largest Christian youth organization in Asia. The prime objectives of the church's youth department is worship, study, service and witness. The young spirits undertake various programmes for personal and social development all across the globe. The major projects include home for homeless, land for the landless and law for the lawless. The mission of the youths have cut across all sections of the society including street children, tribal children, offsprings of the commercial sex workers, old age persons and rehabilitation efforts.
The church services based on Syrian Christian liturgies are beautified by the youths' participation in the worship curriculum of the church. This effort of the youth wing has been the nursery school for the clergy and
episcopy.
The youth wing also undertakes serious theological studies, research and discourses on matters of faith, religion, science and development. The
Yuvajana Sakhyam publishes the "Yuvadeepam", a monthly in Malayalam and Ripples, a quarterly in English, in order to facilitate serious study into social and theological concerns.
The services of
Yuvajana Sakhyam in local, zonal and central groups have established a fora for exchanging meaningful ideas and team participation in various sosical service activites. Thus, the youth groups is commited for a total development of the society and country wherever they exist, in bringing about antyodaya and sarvodaya, ie. "the development of the least and the development of all."
The youngsters are powerful ambassadors of Christ in the day to day vocations of life and few graduate to full time gospel work to undertake Christ mission. This group is led by the bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Theodosius at the apex level and the diocesan bishops at the diocesan level.
